Coach Procedures

Timeframe for Coaching Sessions

Before each session:

  • Check schedule
  • Preparation of room and equipment
  • Plan for "down time"
  • Handling resources and data
  • Prepare paperwork for client

Beginning of each session (5 minutes):

  • Client sign in on form
  • Discussing client needs
  • Reviewing assignment

Meeting client needs (15-25 minutes):

  • Emphasize Coach's relationship to client?s work
  • Rely on questioning techniques and brainstorming to
    encourage client to develop his or her own plan
  • Speech development
  • Speech videotaping and/or rehearsal
  • Speech review of videotape and instructor?s notes

Concluding each session (5 minutes)

  • Discuss/arrange follow-up meeting with client
  • Complete the ?Coupon? for client to give to instructor
  • Record notes about session on client info sheet
  • Secure room and equipment
  • Report any problems or concerns to the CommLag Coordinator


Checklist for Coaching Sessions

_______ Greet client
_______ Ask client to fill out Client Information sheet
_______ Ask client to determine the nature of the session. What are his or her goals? What does he or she want to work on?
_______ Ask to see assignment. Find out when it?s due, how long the presentation should be, and other specifics of the assignment. If client want to review a videotape, ask to see the instructor?s evaluation.
_______ Briefly discuss Coach role and suggest plan for the session
_______ Provide any handouts that might assist the client.
_______ As session winds to a close, ask client to rough out a timeline for further preparation. Suggest subsequent appointment.
_______ Provide ?coupon.?
_______ Thank the client for participating and welcome him or her back.
_______ Make notes on Client Info sheet about the nature of the session.
_______ Leave Client Info sheet for Records Manager, who will enter information in the data base and send e-mail to the instructor
