How long are the sessions?

What should I do to prepare for my CommLab appointment?
CommLab coaches will be happy to assist you at any stage of your preparation, but the more prepared you are, the more we can help! In order to get feedback on all aspects of your speech, we ask that you come prepared to present*. Don't forget your ideas, outline, notecards, visual aids (laptop, PowerPoint), or anything else you might need. If you are still in the early stages, please come with specific questions you would like to address during your appointment.
*The Comm Skills group discussion assignment will not require the group to give their actual speech. Instead, we will be participating in a group activity, so all you will need is a writing utensil.
Can I have my speech recorded at CommLab?
Yes! The CommLab staff is happy to record your speech, whether you need to make up a missed presentation or would just like to have a visual look at your delivery. Please let us know that you will need to be taped when you fill out your appointment request so we'll be ready to assist you when you arrive.
Can I practice using my PowerPoint presentation?
Not a problem! Please let us know in advance by making a note when you make your appointment online, and we will be happy to work with you! If you'd like to use the projector, please bring your laptop; if you are using a Mac, also bring your adapter. If you have any special requests, don't hesitate to email us at commlab@vt.edu before your appointment.
Can I get verification that I attended CommLab?
Yes! If your professor requires you to attend CommLab or offers extra credit for attending, we will provide you with a signed voucher to verify your attendance.
What if our group can't meet during regular CommLab hours?
Not a problem! Let us know in advance and we will work around your schedules to find an alternate meeting time. Email us with your request.
How can I get someone to speak to my class or organization about CommLab services?
If you would like CommLab employees to give a presentation to your class or organization, please contact the CommLab Associate Director, Brandi Quesenberry.
