Coach Performance
Training
As CommLab coaches, students agree to perform the duties listed on the Apply page of this site. New coaches will complete training sessions in preparation for their work in the lab. Students may not work in the lab without participating in the training session(s).
Scheduling
Creating a Schedule: Coaches agree to work a set number of hours each week (typically 2-6hrs) for the duration of the semester. The semester schedule will be distributed to all coaches for final approval and will be posted in the lab as well as to the CommLab Blackboard site.
Schedule Preferences: Each coach will indicate their preferred times and days, along with the total number of hours per week. Every attempt is made to complete the master schedule according to the preferences indicated by the coaches.
Schedule Changes: Coaches who cannot work during their specified shift should attempt to find another coach to work those hours. Coaches might trade shifts or simply give a shift to another coach. The CommLab Coordinator should be notified via e-mail of any change.
Cancellations: In case of an emergency, a coach should send an e-mail to the Lab Coordinator indicating that a shift will not be covered. This occurrence would certainly be rare.
Documenting Hours
All coaches should sign in and out of the lab. Wage workers must also submit a time sheet to Shanks every two weeks.
Concerns
At any time the coach, a CommLab Manager, the CommLab Coordinator, and/or the CommLab Director might confer about concerns any one of them might have. In cases of poor performance, coaches will 1) be notified about expectations for future performance and, if issues continue 2) coaches can be taken off the schedule.
